DESCRIPTION
A park structure within a new housing development in a suburb of Zürich. This park is actually one of several parks within Neu Oerlikon but what is unique about this one is that is not just on the ground plane but is rather elevated up to 6 stories within a "permeable" metal grating structure inspired by the areas industrial past and has walkways all around and balconies at each level, including the very scary top level where you can look out over the top of the structure. It is more like a 3D plaza than a park.

The structure itself has vines all around the base and even has planters midway up the structure with more vines. The goal is to have a completely vegetated structure. There is no grass in this park and the ground plan has only permeable surfaces including recycled glass.

LESSONS LEARNED
Architecture and landscape architecture together can create unique outdoor spaces. And walking on grating can be a bit unnerving several stories above the ground.
