2PADESCRIPTIONA major downtown park for Chicago, Millenium Park fiexd an eyesore for the city. Where there was once a train yard, now there are 24.5 acres of green space, tremendous public art and fountains rest. Rather than feeling like a single park expereince, the park is plit in to a series of disparate rooms, each with a signature element, including:
- Kathryn Gustafson, Robert Israel and Piet Oudolf's elegant perennial display at the Lurie Garden
- Frank Gehry's Pritzker Pavilion and BP Bridge
- Anish Kapoor's iconic Cloud Gate
- the Crown Plaza with it's brilliant fountain by Jaume Plensa

LESSONS LEARNEDThe insertion of this very interactive and programmed public space has had an extraordinary influence on downtown Chicago. Summer months find the Crown Plaza filled with kids and the Pritzker Pavilion is a true performance space. The park, however, has little to say about environmental stewardship, its relationship to the lake nearby, nor the industrial history of the site, save for some material choices.
