DEFINITION
A garden by the side of a road or in the median of a road. In residential areas or areas with sidewalks, a garden between the sidewalk and the road.

City ordinances may limit what types/heights of plants can be planted , as well as the types of hardscaping that can be used. Planting curbside gardens also has social benefits, as working on a curbside garden presents opportunities to talk to neighbors and passers by.

Streetside gardens can perform multiple functions, for example stormwater planters are a type of streetside garden that also improves stormwater infiltration.

PERFORMANCE CRITERIA
Criteria will vary widely based on the stated goal of the streetside or curbside garden. Possible performance criteria include aesthetic appeal, vegetable production, and stormwater infiltration.
