2PDESCRIPTIONThis 70-acre park was built in 1982 on a reclaimed industrial site in a densely populated part of Mexico City, a working-class area very much in need of public park space. The heart of the park is a lake that speaks to the rich history of the lake system that once filled the valley of Mexico and is filled with recycled water from a nearby housing development. The edges of the lake have created rich wetland habitat for many species of birds as well as turtles. The rolling hills that surround the lake echo the regions topography and were created using earth from the metro excavations. The richly planted hills are filled with trails, seating areas, and an open-air theater. The park also has an area for sports such as soccer and buildings for seasonal markets. Uniquely designed signage is also seen throughout the park to act as markers to explain to people the history of the Mexico valley. The park is highly used by families in the neighborhood, especially the nearby housing developments. Metro access is close by.
