DESCRIPTION
Due to unique zoning conditions (1/2 block at one height limit, 1/2 block at another) Washington Mutual had an opportunity to create an amenity space for their employees in the sky looking out to Puget Sound. This extensive green roof features nods to the bank's history (such as a giant sculptural abacus) and the region's natural environment.

Drifts of plantings provide a dramatic graphic when in the space and when viewed from the offices above.

LESSONS LEARNED
The detailing is very tight and the overall effect is quite dramatic. However, it seems that by not truly making this a public space, some element is lost. Beautiful nonethelesss.
